The mission of Drop In Nation is to serve out of school youth as well as unemployed or underemployed adults. We accomplish this by providing holistic education, which includes life skills, and career-training
opportunities in a collaborative community based setting.
CHECK OUT DROP-IN NATION IN THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE OF BUFFALO SPREE!
The Drop-In Nation Education Center provides our students with supportive, flexible opportunities for out-of-school youth. While the students prepare for their GED's, we focus on personal development based around the six core components of Drop-In Nation Holistic Education.
Students at Drop-In Nation receive training in English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Writing; in addition our students are introduced to complex literary theory and texts that are thoughtfully selected to reflect student interests.
Our students also participate in two weekly Yoga classes in our "Graffiti Room," exciting volunteer activities, professional development opportunities and personalized career exploration days, internships and college visits.
At Drop-In Nation our students are given honest, positive and supportive feedback by adults. If you or someone you know is in need of a GED, please call (716) 842-8608 to schedule an appointment!
Donnie Adams was born on the South Side of Chicago, and being an eighties baby was destined to be slightly backwards in his approach. Amidst the hardships of growing up in Chicago, Donnie’'s parents worked diligently to provide every opportunity for him to beat the odds.
When racism took a shot at Donnie’s high school education in Chicago he went to an alternative, tuition-free, and residential high school in Estes Park, Colorado called Eagle Rock. It was there that Donnie began to realize his own value, his talent for helping others and his ability to see clearly through many problems and conflicts.
Teaching came natural to Donnie and quickly became his passion; he is absolutely dedicated to providing a window to the world and a vehicle to serve youth who were missing the opportunities Donnie had been fortunate to have. Donnie began serving as the Societies and Cultures Instructional Specialist at Eagle Rock after graduating from the University of Colorado with a Bachelor’s Degree in History. After six years of teaching at the high school level and travelling the world, Donnie is back in the classroom as a proud member of the Drop-In-Nation family serving to make dreams a reality for the youth of Buffalo.
Donnie AKA Xception of G-Do and Xception is a fantastic MC. Check out his newest video short featuring some of the students of Drop-In Nation! His new album "Sankofa" is due out 12-13-11!

Donating to Drop-In Nation Changes Lives!
So many wonderful people have been asking what they can do to support the youth of Drop-In Nation - our comprehensive program is a DIRECT service organization with minimal overhead - your support actually goes directly into our daily work with out-of-school youth! 50% of urban youth are dropping out yet 0% on the budget is spent making sure these talented but disconnected youth have the opportunity for a future.
Here are some ideas for how you can be involved:
1) Funding support: Drop-In Nation is a not-for-profit, low overhead and fiscally responsible organization with an active Board of Directors. Drop-In Nation works with private donors, grant makers, the Adult Education Division and corporations to successfully serve our youth and reconnect them to education. It takes between 3,000- 5,000 per student to get them to graduation and college /trade /job follow-up depending on the wrap-around services necessary –- to put this in perspective it takes nearly $200,000 a year to incarcerate 5 youth - – 88% of whom do not have a high school diploma or GED upon exiting the Juvenile Justice or Criminal Justice systems. – The same amount of funding can serve 50 youth at Drop-In Nation for a year resulting in a GED, job readiness and the ability to enter college or a training program.
